Hey friend! It’s been a while. I know…we’ve both been busy with things, but that’s no excuse. I promise to make a better effort, and share a little more, and put the seat down, and everything else that’s important.
Overall, there has not been a lot of stand out albums so far this year. There’s some people will tell you they love, but they don’t mean it. Unless they are talking about A Great Big World, which is rarely done in public (psssst…it’s fantastic!).
Seriously, short of a good showing from Jeremy Messersmith, this killer EP from Rainbow Jackson, and some gym-jamming to new Bayside and Rick Ross efforts, it’s been kind of…meh. Lots of head-nodding, little heart-thumping.
This week is not much different, unless you LOVE 311. In which case, puff puff pass and enjoy the scenery.
The albums may be lacking, but the songs are not. Here are five standouts from this week.
Fun. – Sight Of The Sun
As heard on GIRLS, Nate Ruess can do no wrong. That is all.
Classified (featuring B.o.B.) – Higher
The right sample can make any hip-hop song perfect. Canadian MC Classified is all aboot this. For serious, check out his previous work.
Lime Cordiale – Sleeping At Your Door
This song is just infectious, a throwback with some grit.
Jennifer Lopez (featuring French Montana) – I Luh Ya Papi
I know, I know, I know. Stop. Try not dancing to this. Look, I wasn’t expecting to have this much fun with J-Lo either, but by the time they do the “Jenny From The Block” callback and break into some 90’s R&B crooning, it’s game over.
Soko – We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow
This week quite a stir was caused by this viral “First Kiss” video. It turned out to be less than authentic, yet the song is still incredibly real. From 2012, this sparse mantra is haunting and beautiful. Take a moment to connect to it and know how important you are. It’s lovely.
