Local Jawn: Rest Up, There’s A Gazillion Concerts This Week
Tell your Meetup Group you’ve got better things to do this week. Tomorrow kicks off a perfect storm for a heartfelt indie music fan.
Do you have feelings? Enjoy contemplating them? Somewhere within this week lay a chance to connect with one of the best bands in music today.
Tuesday – Alt-J and Lord Huron @ The Electric Factory
Ben Schneider and his Michigan friends love walking in the woods and thinking about what it all means under the name Lord Huron. They open for the always fun, dance-inducing Alt-J at the Electric Factory Tuesday.
Wednesday – CHVRCHES @ Union Transfer
They don’t get much more adorable then Lauren Mayberry. She brings her band CHVRCHES to Union Transfer, a week before their first full album “The Bones Of What You Believe” drops. However, you can hear it here now.
There’s been so much buzz about this band this year, and its well deserved. Their brand of electro-pop is more accessible, resonating, and emotional than most. Pumping your fist to “Recover” could be the concert moment of the month.
Thursday – Vampire Weekend @ The Mann Center
What can I say about Vampire Weekend and “Modern Vampires Of The City” that I haven’t already said here. I got a chance to see them close out the Firefly Music Festival this summer and it was nothing short of spiritual. Hopefully with a beautiful night Thursday, it’s the only thing that could keep me from Big Red’s return to the Linc.
Friday – Sigur Ros @ The Mann Center
This year’s release “Kveikur” rocks a little harder than usual, but the real moment of Icelandic perfection that I’m waiting for Friday is “Festival“. It’s moving, it’s epic, and still stands as one of the best songs ever.

Also worth noting, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on Tuesday at Penn’s Landing, the Arctic Monkey on Wednesday at The Mann, City and Colour at the Electric Factory on Wednesday, Washed Out at Union Transfer on Thursday, and Grieves opens for Pepper at the TLA on Friday. GOOD. GRIEF.
If you survive all of that there’s always THIS on Sunday. Good luck friends.
